How I Gained 25lbs This Year

This Saturday marked a special day in our house.

Our baby daughter Matea turned the big #1 on Saturday and celebrated her 1st Birthday!

Days later…I am still cleaning up cake

Used Cars move I can’t believe a whole year has gone by since I became a dad.

I have to say it’s been the most challenging AND the most rewarding year of my life.

Looking back I don’t know how I survived on such little sleep!

But when you are suddenly responsible for another little life, you find a way to do what you have to do to be the best damn dad you can be.

Which also involves not forgetting to take care of myself…. I don’t want to be huffing and puffing and out of breath when I am running around the backyard playing with my daughter because I neglected to take time for myself and stay fit with just 3 short workouts a week.

Despite being a busy dad working full-time up to 60 hours a week and running a business on the side , with my Dad Fitness workouts the only weight I gained during the past year has been my 25lb beautiful baby daughter.

I am actually down a few pounds to about 175lbs and a little leaner, compared to this time last year. But I am feeling healthier and stronger than I have ever been thanks to paying extra attention to my warm ups, mobility and my flexibility during my workouts.

I keep things pretty simple with short intense workouts and eating REAL food most of the time.

I work hard in the gym but more importantly work hard at home being a dad, a husband and a man.

That weight on my shoulders is something that I never want to lose…

Happy Birthday Matea.

Enjoy the ride…I will be there every step of the way;-)

Dad Fitness Cooking Show How To Make The Best Burger

When people see me eat burgers and pizza, the first question they ask me is

“How do you eat this stuff and stay in such great shape?”

Donnie Darko movie download

My first answer is with 3 short and simple, BUT intense Dad Fitness workouts each week.

These build strength and lean muscle which is a must if you want to increase your metabolism and force your body to burn fat 24 hours around the clock, even while your sleeping!

…which seems to be a commodity here lately in the Barker household with our teething 10 month old daughter. Poor baby…

Then my second answer is that MY homemade pizza and burgers is not the same as YOUR pizza and burgers that you feed your family.

They taste better and are actually GOOD for your health!

So sit back, relax and watch me fire up my BBQ and show you
how to make the best burgers Dad Fitness style!

WARNING: This video may contain really good food!

Want to live longer? You need this nutrient

I found such a great article by Best Life Magazine on Omega 3 fats and our health I had to pass it on.

“A higher intake of omega-3 fatty acids found in oily fish such as salmon has been shown to positively affect ailments as diverse as stroke, allergies, dementia, and dyslexia.”

Before you read it Laws of Attraction rip make sure to watch this quick video on the world’s top expert in omega 3 research.

The Show Must Go On…

I managed to push myself to the gym this morning despite feeling a little under the weather. Sniff…sniff

Now that my thumb is feeling better again after a few days rest, I am fighting off a nasty head cold!

After my wife getting the same cold last week, I knew it was going to be hard to avoid catching this.

I feel the most for our 6 month old baby daughter Matea as she has no choice but to be surrounded by the both of us. I really hope she don’t end up with it as well!

After slowing getting up after a night of tossing and turning I brewed a hot cup of green tea and had a bowl of hot oatmeal with blueberries.

The workout I did this morning was a workout from one of the youngest and brightest trainers in the industry, Nate Green.

Nate just sent me an advanced copy of his new book, Built For Show.

I haven’t had a chance to read through the book yet but decided to give one of the workouts a try this morning.

I started with Workout A of his “Fall” training program.

Don’t let the title of his book fool you. Even though Nate who is only 23 years old wrote this book for young guys who want to look good for the ladies, it has actually gives you state of the art workouts for any one of any age that will have you building lean FUNCTIONAL muscle while stripping away bodyfat.

I will post a complete book review for Built For Show when I read through it.

Fat Makes You Smart!

I will be taking the rest of this week off from the gym as I strained my left thumb and hand yesterday. Hopefully its just a bad strain and will heal-up after a few days.

I have no idea how I did it but I have no grip strength and can barely lift a pencil!

Usually I take a week off from the gym every 8 weeks or so anyway to give my body and mind a break from hard training. I will be starting a new workout routine Monday and will let you know how it goes.

But here’s an awesome little video showing the value of omega 3 fat intake in the diet. For the best nutrition system on the market today check out Precision Nutrition. I use it, pro athletes use it, so it will definitely work for you.
